These are the event results from the Pokémon VGC 2022 Season! This page will include tournament information and results from Regionals, Special Events, International Championships, and the World Championships during the 2020-2022 season!
The 2020-2022 season was an unusual one that spanned three years. It was paused from March 2020 to March 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, online events were held, and select offline events were held in Taiwan.
VGC 2022 Ruleset
From August 18, 2019 to January 3, 2020, players competed using the Ultra Series ruleset, playing Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon on the Nintendo 3DS using the following ruleset.
- Players will be allowed to use up to 2 of the following restricted Pokémon per team: Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-oh, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Cosmog, Cosmoem, Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma.
- All Z-Crystals, Mega Stones, Red Orb, and Blue Orb are allowed. Rayquaza is allowed to use the move Dragon Ascent.
Starting January 4, 2020, the ruleset changed. Players competed on Pokémon Sword and Shield using the Nintendo Switch. For the first time, the format changed each Series, allowing certain Giganatamax Pokémon to be legal for each Series.
- Series 1: November 19 – December 31, 2019. Though no official VGC events were played in Series 1, no Giganatmax Pokémon were allowed to be used in this Series.
- Series 2: January 4 – February 29, 2020. 10 Gigantamax Pokémon were allowed that were obtainable through events or featured in the Wild Area. Charizard with the Blaze ability, Butterfree, Pikachu, Meowth, Eevee, Snorlax, Corviknight, Drednaw, Sandaconda, and Centiskorch can now Gigantamax. Additionally, the evolution lines of Venusaur, Blastoise, Decidueye, Primarina, and Incineroar can be used. Galarian Slowpoke is also legal.
- Series 3: March 1 – April 30, 2020. Kingler, Lapras, Orbeetle, Coalossal, Flapple, Appletun, Toxtricity, Hatterene, Grimmsnarl, and Alcremie can now Gigantamax. Charizard with the Solar Power ability could now Gigantamax.
- Series 4: May 1 – June 30, 2020. Machamp, Gengar, Garbodor, Copperajah, and Duraludon can now Gigantamax.
- Series 5: July 1 – August 31, 2020. All Pokémon in the Isle of Armor Pokédex are now legal, including Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion. Venusaur, Blastoise, Rillaboom, Cinderace, Inteleon, and Urshifu can now Gigantamax.
- Series 6: September 1 – October 31, 2020. Venusaur, Gyarados, Porygon2, Tyranitar, Torkoal, Hippowdon, Magnezone, Togekiss, Excadrill, Whimsicott, Incineroar, Mimikyu, Rillaboom, Cinderace, Indeedee, and Dragapult are unable to be used.
- Series 7: November 1, 2020 – January 31, 2021. All Pokémon in the Crown Tundra Pokédex are now legal.
- Series 8: February 1 – April 30, 2021. Players can use one of the following Pokémon: Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Palkia, Dialga, Giratina, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma, Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus, and Calyrex.
- Series 9: May 1 – July 31, 2021. All Pokémon in the Crown Tundra Pokédex are now legal. This is the same ruleset as Series 7.
- Series 10: August 1 – October 31, 2021. Players can use one of the following Pokémon: Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Palkia, Dialga, Giratina, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma, Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus, and Calyrex. Pokémon are unable to Dyanamax or Gigantamax.
- Series 11: November 1 – January 31, 2022. This is the same ruleset as Series 8.
- Series 12: February 1 – August 31, 2022. Players can use two of the following Pokémon: Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Palkia, Dialga, Giratina, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma, Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus, and Calyrex.
