After a three-year hiatus, 307 players traveled to London, United Kingdom to compete at the Pokémon VGC 2022 World Championships on August 18-21, 2022! Players who earned Day 1 invites battled on August 18, with those who earned two or fewer losses advancing to August 19 alongside players who earned Day 2 invites, and those who finished with two or fewer losses on Friday advancing to Saturday's single-elimination bracket to determine the sole Generation 8 World Champion, featuring a $51,500 prize pool. In addition to prize money, the top 4 finishers earned Day 1 invites to the 2023 World Championships.
The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) was in London to broadcast this event with Lee Provost, Lou Akcos-Cromie, Adam Dorricott, Rosemary Kelley, Joe Brown, and Sierra Hunter as casters. Aaron Zheng and Scott Glaza also provided expert analysis of the event.
