The biggest event of the Pokémon VGC 2023 season and the first event played in the Regulation D format was held as 286 qualified players traveled to compete at the 2023 World Championships in Yokohama, Japan on August 11-13, 2013! The thirteenth time that players have competed at the World Championships, 359 players qualified to compete in Yokohama to become the 2023 Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet World Champion!
Players who started on Day 1 played 7 Swiss Rounds whereas those who won 5 Rounds advanced to Day 2 Swiss. In total, 64 players joined those who already had Day 2 invites where they played through 7 Swiss Rounds. Players who finished with two or fewer losses advanced to a single-elimination bracket to determine the winner.
The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) was in Yokohama to broadcast the World Championships with Anna Prosser as the event's host and Aaron Zheng, Adam Dorricott, Labhosia Akcos-Cromie, Lee Provost, Rosemary Kelley, Scott Glaza, and Ray Rizzo as casters!
In addition, several Day 1 and Day 2 matches were uploaded by Jimmy Kwa on his YouTube channel.
